The Best Part of Me..... I guess when you lose someone you love... u can / could say, the best part of you is gone... that's what I'm trying to say here... As I was in Nashville recording this song, a couple of the players asked me... what does it mean when you say ... "got a harvest moon and prairie gold..." well..., Growing up in Montana, we had often a harvest moon, and the prairies were often gold.... Guess we talke different ways in different parts of the country..

At 95

"At 95" ... This song is a tribute to my grandfather Ray Stoner who passed away a couple years back... I'm happy to say he did get to hear the song... I sent it to him as an acoustic version before he passed...
... The story of the song is ...
as a young guy, i maybe was a bit too big for my britches... I had one particular time when I was talking with my grandfather, probably telling him my opinions of life and the world... and how the world seemed against me.... And he paused, looked at me, and said, "you question life cause you're young... when you get to my age, you will see that all of it along the way has benefit... the good times, the bad times, the hard times and the sad..."
... he went on to talk about how his generation went through the Great Depression and World War II, how he felt lost for a time as a young man..., ..., and how he didn't regret any of it ...
Well... think this is a good place to listen to the song.. you get the point...
I was humbled
Whiskey Salesman

"Whiskey Salesman"
Well of course I wanted to sell a million records and be famous ... well so far that hasn't happened for me ...
I have written some good songs, and made some great friends along the way..., and if it had to stop right now, I would be able to say I had a great ride!
But the story of the song... I actually had a bar owner once tell me that I would be given 2% of the bar as a bonus ... the bonus didn't turn out to be too high... Imagine... bar sales of $1,000 .... The bonus was $20 or so...
but i got something better than a 2% bonus... I saw that what I really do for a living is sell whiskey for the bar owner.... I bring the party.... I help folks to forget their week, their troubles for a little while, and have a good time... And then I realized I'm ok with that.... I even felt a little proud... So yes, "I ain't nothin' but a Whiskey Salesman ... I sell the whiskey and I sell the beer, I'm the one who brings the party here
And I'm damm proud to do it!
